Play AlpaCard, an online card game with alpacas (and friends)

Free, fun, and furry! AlpaCard is a card game where you fill in the blanks in the most ridiculous or horrible way possible. Play special action cards to earn extra points, get better cards, or mess with the other players so you can take the win.

AlpaCard takes inspiration from games like Cards against Humanity and Exploding Kittens.

3-12 players 30-90 minutes age 17+ played online on phone, tablet, or pc

Customise the deck

The base deck has about 150+ unique prompts and 325+ answer cards. It's somewhat family friendly; expect fart jokes, mild swearing, and "your mom" jokes.

You can keep playing after someone wins, or end early

How to play

AlpaCards is easy to learn, and is played in the browser on any device. When everyone's in and the deck has been shuffled, you get 10 cards to start.

Each round consists of (1) one player picking a prompt, (2) a short time to play action cards, (3) choosing your horrible cards to fill in the blanks, and then (4) voting on your favorite answers. The player with the most votes wins up to 10 points, and the player to get to 101 points first wins the game.

Standard answer cards contain a word, phrase, person, activity, or anything else that may fit in the blanks. In Cards against Humanity, these are the white cards.

Action cards give special bonuses, and can only be played at the start of a round. You may find Three's a Herd (draw 3 extra cards), Alpaca your bags (steal 1 card from another player), Not in my meadow! (point to one card of another player that they may not use this round), or one of the other action cards to put the game on its head—hopefully in your favour.

We're still working on adding action cards to the game, one at a time. You'll find a list of implemented action cards below, but we have more planned.

For optimal fun, set up a voice or video call with the other players. There is no chat.

Pick a prompt

Each round starts with a prompt: either a question, or a wacky sentence with one or more empty spots to fill in.

A different player chooses one of three suggested prompts to start each round, starting with the host.

Play an action card (or don't)

With the prompt selected, you may find yourself in need of some luck. Use action cards to tilt the game in your favour by collecting more cards, trading cards, or simply bullying your fellow players.

Each player may only play 1 action card per round, so use them wisely.

Choose your answers & vote

In 90 seconds you must pick your answer card(s) to fill the prompt. Make it funny, ridiculous, offensive, or whatever might convince the other players yours is best.

Once everyone made their selection, vote on your favorite to determine the winner.

Voting & Points

With all answers submitted, the completed prompts will be shown to all players. This is anonymous, so there's no preferential treatment. Every player votes for their personal favorite, but cannot vote for their own answers.

Points are given to the player(s) with the most votes:

  • If all players except the winner voted for the same answer (i.e. a unanimous win), they get 10 points. The runner-up gets 1 point.
  • For a majority win you earn 7 points are awarded plus 3 for the runner-up.
  • If victory is split equally by 2 or 3 players, an equal share of 10 points is divided amongst them (5 or 3 points).
  • If more than 3 players have the same amount of votes, the selection of the top 3 that gets points is random.

If that sounds difficult, don't worry about it. The game keeps track of scores automatically, so you don't have to.

Finally, new cards are drawn for you equal to the amount of cards you played in the round (counting both action cards and answer cards).

Get 101 points to win the game!

Action Cards

Action cards are played at the start of each round, at most one per player per round, and unlock a bonus or hinders another player. The number of action cards in a game depends on the number of players at the start; games with more players will have more action cards in the deck, but you'll start with at least two.

AlpaCard is in active development, and we're still adding action cards—one at a time. So stay tuned for more options to tilt the game in your favour and join the discord to stay up-to-date!

Three's a Herd

Draw three extra cards.

With the Three's a Herd action card, you immediately draw 3 new cards to use in the current round.

Best to use as soon as you get it, as the 3 extra cards will get replenished after each round.

✓ Implemented

Round 'm up

Discard up to 3 cards, and draw an equal amount of new cards from the deck.

Get rid of any cards you don't like, and replace them with new cards you can play immediately. Just don't discard the perfect card for the next prompt...

✓ Implemented

Feeding Frenzy

Get double points this round (if you get any points).

Very confident about your cards (or want to reverse psychology your opponents into thinking your cards are great)? Start a Feeding Frenzy and get double points for this round only.

And yes, double 0 points is 0 points.

✓ Implemented

Alpaca your bags

Blindly steal one card from another player.

Blindly choose a card from another player, and add it to your collection instead.

The card is immediately part of your deck and the action card will be replenished after the round, earning you an extra card the rest of the game.

The player whose card you stole will not get a replacement. Sucks to be them.

✓ Implemented

Alpabesties

Give another player of your choosing an extra card out of the kindness of your heart.

There's nothing in it for you, but you can make one player feel appreciated and loved by giving them an extra card to play with. Maybe they'll return the favour another time.

How much does it cost to play AlpaCard?
Nothing! You can host a game for free and invite up to 15 friends to join without paying a penny. That said, we do have costs running the game, and it took a lot of time and effort to develop the game, so if you enjoy playing a donation would make us jump for joy.
What happens if all players steal cards from one player, and they have no answer cards left?
For starters, you're all awful for targeting a single player like that. We'd be great friends.

Secondly, to make sure every player can always participate, players with few (answer) cards will be drawn extra cards at the start of the round, after the action round to make sure they always get have 1 more answer card than the prompt has blank spaces. So they have at least some choice. Not a very good choice, probably, but some.

If the player has any luck they'll also draw some useful action cards, like Round 'm up or Three's a herd, to get back on their feet.
What happens when the deck is empty?
The deck may run out of unused cards before someone hits 101 points especially in games with 8 or more players (or 6 or more without the NSFW pack). When that happens, the burn pile will be shuffled back into the deck so you can continue playing until someone wins, however you may start seeing cards that have already been played in earlier rounds.
How many alpaca puns are in this game?
Quite a few. We're not hayshamed to admit that.
What devices can I play AlpaCard on?
Any modern internet-connected device that can browse the websites will do: smartphones, tablets, laptops, or desktop PCs. You don't need a top-of-the-line gaming PC, but a stable internet connection definitely helps.

Chrome, Firefox or Edge is strongly recommended. Internet Explorer is not supported.
Is AlpaCard based on or an online version of Cards against Humanity?
There certainly are similarities: most importantly both games revolve around completing prompts with answers given to you on cards to choose from, preferably in a ridiculous way. However, there are a lot more differences: the theme, action cards, how points and voting work, the actual cards, etc.

We set out to build a fun, original and independent game with no relation to Cards Against Humanity LLC. Their genre-defining game is awesome, though.
